Details: The 16th at Augusta National, redesigned by Robert Trent Jones in 1947, requires a tee shot over water…a lot of water. In fact, nearly the entirety of the fairway is a lake with ribbon-slender left and right shores that angle back into the drink.
History: Nicknamed “Redbud” for the beauty of its budding trees, the 16th at Augusta, with its Sunday back-left pin placement, has been the deciding factor in numerous Masters. In 1954, Ben Hogan 3-putted here, losing a playoff to Sam Snead. Jack Nicklaus birdied the 16th on his way to his first Masters win in 1963, and his final Masters win in 1986.
